Smokin Js Photo Scavenger Hunt

Gather your friends!  Create your team!  It's time to compete in the first annual Smokin Js photo scavenger hunt!
Smokin Js is awarding cash prizes for the winners, and guaranteed fun for all the losers.

HOW?
It's simple, it's FREE.  All you have to do is find some friends or family and create a team.  Teams must be between 3 and 5 people.  Then you have to register your team with Smokin Js to participate and be eligible for cash prizes.  Registration is simple, just email your team name, the city where your team is located, and all the email addresses of the team members to Jay@SmokinJs.com.  All registered team members must be 18 year of age to participate, but kids can tag along with parents and join in the fun.

WHERE?
In your town!  You don't have to travel anywhere outside of your home region.  Teams can register from anywhere in the United States.  Almost all of the scavenger hunt photos can be found in every town in the United States.

WHEN?
Your team must register between 07/19/13 and 08/12/13.  The event will be held on 08/17/13 between 12 noon and 10pm Pacific Standard Time.

WHAT?
The Smokin Js scavenger hunt is going to be a lot of fun!  Once the registration period is over and all the team's emails are collected, we will email participants final instructions and encouragement.  At 12 noon on 08/17/13 we will send out an email to all the participants with the photo scavenger hunt list.  Teams will have ten hours to email the cell phone pics to Jay@SmokinJs.com.  We will simply check the email address of the sender and apply the photo award to the coresponding team.  Each scavenger hunt item will have points associated with it and some items will even have bonus points.  The team with the most points wins!  We will be giving live updates throughout the event day through our social media sites and at the physical Smokin Js locations.

Rules & Restrictions for Participants:  MUST READ

2013 Degenerate Flame Off

Smokin Js invaded the 5th Annual Degenerate Flame Off in Eugene, Or.  We sent our own Megan "Mega" Mac to cover the event.
Anyone can appreciate a piece of art. You find a whole new respect for the piece and the artist when you witness the making of it from beginning to end. This year I was lucky enough to attend the 5th annual Degenerate Flame Off. It was three days of artists and enthusiasts coming together to celebrate and show their support for the functional glass art industry. This time of year, an entire weekend of sun and 70 plus degree weather is practically unheard of in Eugene, Oregon, but I'm still sportin' the tan lines.

All three days artists collaborated on live demos, and vendor booths offered everything from glass to clothing, and even back massages. Live music played, kegs were tapped, and the sweet smell of maryjane filled the air. Although there seemed to be people and excitement everywhere, the atmosphere was very mellow with a "one love" type feeling.

Saturday was the main event. Eighteen glass blowers competed in a grueling 8 hour flame off. Being outside of their normal environment with hundreds of spectators, they can only hope for the best. Elbo was awarded the people's choice award with his amazing tortoise and the hare oil rigs: "it's not a contest." All of the artists definitely brought their A game. There were a lot of great pieces created!

Steve Bates brings the concept of science to glass blowing like no other. After Sundays awards ceremonies were all wrapped up, he brought his giant triple mouth-piece waterpipe out into the lawn so we could REALLY appreciate it. Everyone was eager to load the bowl and test it out. I still get giddy just thinking about it.

This year was the DFO's largest turn out yet and, with each year it will only get bigger and better.

Pictures speak louder than words so please be sure to check out all of our pictures.

Have a great day Smokin J-ers!!!

Ariel is a Glass Hound

HIGH everyone! Ariel here.  This morning I woke up with a 'halfbaked' idea! Every day as I get ready for work, and take one last longing glance at my glass.  I wish I could bring all of my favorite pieces to share with all the amazing people I see walk through our doors at Smokin Js. I wish I could create moments with so many! Since I can't physically accomplish this, I figured I could at least semi accomplish my mission by pulling out all the pieces I could find and taking most of my morning to have a 'red carpet photoshoot' in the sun for all of my current glass lovelies, so I can at least share and talk about them with you.

Some of these pieces I bought way before I even started working for Smokin Js.  American made glass, all you'll find at Smokin Js, has stood its test against time, and with a little TLC, I've had my favorite dry pipe for roughly 5 years now :) . . . and yes that is a sand blasted hammer head shark, and sea turtles!

My rainbow side car bubbler has been with me for longer then I can remember! SmokinJ's is like the pot (of gold?) at the end of the rainbow ;) Always treasures to be found!

I don't even have words MONUMENTAL enough for how this 3ft ADS TOWERS over all other water pipes in my heart, thanks Tmo for helping convince me I needed her (not that it was very difficult), you always guide me to pieces I love!  When I found the rainbow dot-box bowl, I knew it was a match made in heaven.

Careful or your eyes might pop right out! When you see my Dragon bubbler next to our new eyeball sherlocks, I'm not sure if its my heart or my eyeball that's melting at the sight of these ;)

A picture I'll save for a smile on even the cloudiest day, Blaze1 Gloria bubbler to the left of my gandolf sherlock (which has been wrapped with copper wire and stones, I've gladly purchased 2 of those in the years), and my new Synthesis fummed hammer that's been colored in (we've got them in pipes & sherlocks as well)

I could go on showing close ups for a while yet (I really do stare at glass for hours guys, I mean I don't even get enough at work apparently), but I'll wrap it up with a stunning piece of art made by KMack I just purchased yesterday, with help from Jay for always knowing where to look, Alex who sent a picture to me as soon as it came in, Tmo who pointed it out when it hit the shelf with 'my name on it', and Nichole who sold it to me as soon as I had cash in hand.  Honestly its like here at Smokin Js we are a group of treasure hunters who can't rest as long as there's still beauties to be seen! We go from hunting and searching for customers, to hunting for each other, and of course last but not least
ourselves ;)

Thanks to you all for the love, honesty, friends, family, and all the memories we build around quality glass!

& as always, Thanks Smokin Js!

~Ariel

Here comes the sun! Time for shorts, tank tops, and the outdoors. You might think you're ready, but there's a few things that you cannot live without this spring/summer season, and Smokin Js has you covered.

Toss your flops and grab a pair of our Nomadic Rope Sandals. Hand-crafted with 100% polypropylene rope, these lightweight sandals will not only be your most comfortable, but your most durable footwear yet! They're color-fast, machine washable, and they come in an assortment of colors and styles for kids, adults, men, and women alike.

Don't go anywhere without a Dime Bag. They come in a variety of styles from pipe pouches to waterpipe duffles, and backpacks to side satchels. Hand stitched with a hemp/polyester mix, these Eco-friendly bags are incredibly durable. Each bag has multiple pockets for the organized traveler and a secret pocket containing a smell and spill proof bag for your discretion. Day trip, hike, or camping, there's a bag for every occasion!

Shade your head with one of our street inspired stash pocket hats from No Bad Ideas. Yes, I said stash pocket. It takes a close eye, but each one has a secret pocket for money, ID, notes, or well, your "stash". Snapbacks, baseball, legion, driver, flat bills, tams, knits, and special female styles... Whatever your pretty little head desires. Especially great for concerts and festivals.

For the smoker on the go, you can be inconspicuous with our Click-n-Hit self lighting pipe. It's so small it can fit right in your pocket and since it looks like an oversized pen, no one will think anything of it. Simply fill it up with your favorite herb, screw back together, click and hit. Life can't get much easier than that. Just be sure to fill the torch lighter with quality butane (we recommend Vector).

Check, check, check, check... OK, NOW you are ready! Here at Smokin Js we try to have something for everyone and every occasion. Be sure to keep us in mind for all of your smoking and alternative fashion needs. We've got you covered.

Smokin Js Invaded Seattle for 4/20

Smokin Js invaded Seattle for 4/20 this year.  The universe aligned in a magic way for one of our employees, Josh.  He is a big Supercross fan, and it just so happened that 4/20 was the date for the Seattle Supercross!  So we stuff Josh with a bunch of SmokinJs.com coupon cards, smacked him in the butt, and sent him on his way for a special adventure.
The first stop for Josh was the Seattle Supercross.  The stadium was packed with over 50 thousand people, the races were awesome, and the event had machines that produced giant fireballs throughout the day.  Justin Barcia took the main event win with Ryan Villopoto finishing second.

Josh finished the 4/20 night at The Luxe in downtown Seattle for 420fest.  The club had live music and a full bar.  The Luxe was packed for the event as you can imagine being in Seattle, Washington ... The EVERGREEN State!  We lost track of Josh as he fully submerged himself into festivities of the night, but we were able to find this picture showing Josh partaking in what he called the biggest joint he has ever seen!

You never know where you will find the Smokin Js crew across the Pacific Northwest enjoying a wide variety of events and festivals.  When you fins us be sure to get some free swag and coupons.

4/20, Smokin Js, and the Brian Grant Foundation

4/20 Sale Fundraiser

Smokin Js will donate 10% of all sales on 4/20 to the Brian Grant Foundation, an organization created to "help those affected by Parkinson's disease to live active and fulfilling lives."

Please forward this information.

We at Smokin Js live with Parkinson's disease every day.  One of our team members, Tmo Teeling, is in a battle with Parkinson's disease.  We wanted to do something special for our annual 4/20 sale event this year.  Supporting Tmo and the Brian Grant Foundation is a perfect addition to the salebration.

The Brian Grant Foundation was created by former Portland Trailblazer power forward Brian Grant.  After a 12 year career in the NBA, Brian was diagnosed with Young Onset Parkinson's disease in 2008.

Smokin Js very own Tmo Teeling was diagnosed in 2011 with Rapid Onset Distonia Parkinson's disease.  Currently 34 years old, Tmo has worked for Smokin Js for almost two years.  He was no longer able to keep his high tech job at a solar cell manufacturing facility after he became sick and started showing symptoms of Parkinson's disease.  Smokin Js was very fortunate to be on the list of dream jobs for Tmo.  Since joining the team, Tmo hasn't just fit in, but thrives.  Tmo brings a product and technical knowledge of Smokin Js merchandise that few people possess.  He also takes great pride in helping customers with care and attention.  Tmo consistently takes notes on the little hard-to-find items customers are looking for, and does the research to find the items in the nooks and crannies of Smokin Js inventory.  Tmo puts so much care and attention into special customer requests that we created a new position and title and threw it into his daily job duties.

Smokin Js, Tmo, and the Brian Grant Foundation have a natural synergy.  The Brian Grant Foundation was created to help families affected by Parkinson's disease to fulfill active lives.  Despite Tmo's diagnosis of Rapid Onset Distonia Parkinson's, he manages to lead a very active lifestyle.  He works over 30 hours per week at Smokin Js, and manages to be in charge of maintenance issues and special customer requests.  However, Tmo's true passion has become his motorcycle and racing.  Tmo owns a 2006 1000cc Kawasaki Ninja.  He doesn't just ride the bike, he loves to race it!  He considers himself to be an avid enthusiast with experience at the Portland International Raceway School.  Parkinson's doesn't slow him down on the motorcycle.  The adrenaline helps his body focus and he gets lost on his motorcycle pushing his limits and forgetting about his Parkinson's disease.  Racing is something he can still do and excel at.  He believes his motorcycle racing skills have actually improved since being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.

Tmo in black, knee on the ground, ready to over-take the riders just ahead.
Saturday, 4/20, 10% of all sales will go to the Brian Grant Foundation.  Smokin Js will have special sales and door prizes going all day on 4/20 to support the event.  Come on down to one of our physical retail stores and join in the fun, celebration, and charity event.  All online sales from the SmokinJs.com web site will also be included in the donation total.  We love our customers, thank you for helping us help families affected by Parkinson's disease.
